HGC goes to Middendorf's
Once again it's time to make those New Year's resolutions, you know the ones we make and do for about a month if we're lucky, (especially the ones which require no chocolate, no french fries, no sauces, no gravies...might just as well eat cardboard)! And the exercises that require sweating, exercise machines or classes with that instructor that looks like a Barbie doll that can put her leg around her neck or do a perfect split with no effort at all, and here I am still trying to touch my toes! Ahhh, those were the days, many moons ago! But I will try.....I must unless I want to take a handful of pills to keep my heart ticking!
Well we ladies, (some of us anyway), of the Hammond Garden Club decided to start next Monday, (isn't that when all diets start), since our meeting was held at Middendorf's Restaurant we were going to make it our "Last Hurrah"! How could you possibly go to a seafood restaurant swelling over with fried everything, poor boys with fried shrimp spilling over the sides, slathered with mayo, (it had lettuce and tomatoes...that's a vegetable isn't it?).....I don't remember seeing anyone's plate having baked or grilled fish dressed with that hard crunchy kale around it and a side of broccoli, no butter please!
Guess we had better get down to the meeting we came for which started with the Pledge of Allegiance by all and a prayer by Eldie Stafford in Paulette Heberts' absense. Mary called for the sign-up sheet and asked if everyone had signed in. Our former president Carolyn Schwebel called out she hadn't and when she did she joyfully announced it was the first time she had signed her new name, we all applauded. Carolyn recently married and is now Mrs. Carolyn Schwebel Todd!
The usual announcement was made that the minutes had been emailed to all and Mary asked for a motion to accept, so moved by Clara Houston and seconded by Phyllis diBenedetto, approved by all. She then asked Phyllis for the Treasurers report and Sylvia Dileo gave the Garden of the Month that went to Mr. and Mrs. Anzalone at #9 Fairway View Drive. Linda Ross said that there was nothing yet for the Link Award.
Since we, the Hammond Garden Club are the hosts for the Joint Meeting for the Tangipahoa Area Garden Clubs February 13, there was much discussion of what would take place, who would be taking care of what job and who would be bringing what. After much deliberation, everyone had their job and we were off to the races! Can't let the cat out of the bag but we know everyone is going to enjoy the entertainment!
Margaret Hawkins announced the information about Art In Bloom and Pat Graves said how much she learned there last year and how much fun it was. She encouraged all of us to come saying she knew we would enjoy it as much as she did.
With no more business to discuss, Mary closed the meeting. There was much more conversation going on among friends (and some that were even enjoying dessert)!!!
The Hammond Garden Club is a proud member of the District VI, Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. and the Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc. doing our best to unify and beautify our homes, gardens, our city and our nation every day to the best of our ability.
