On Wednesday, Jan. 25, members of the Hammond Garden Club and the students of Mrs. Pierce’s eighth grade environmental sciences class planted a tree in observance of Arbor Day.
The garden club donated a magnolia grandiflora “D.D. Blanchard” to be planted in the beautifully peaceful prayer garden on the Holy Ghost Catholic School’s campus that will be surrounded by other trees, statuary and several benches on which to sit quietly meditating or praying.
Mrs. Pierce’s class of environmental sciences was a perfect choice for this celebration since it teaches the importance of how trees improve the quality of air we breathe and the water we drink. They also beautify our homes, parks and provide shade for hot summer days.
It’s a very worthy subject to further their studies going into college as environmental engineers or many other positions in this field that are very much in demand today.
The Hammond Garden Club is a member of the District VI Louisiana Club Federation Inc. and the Deep South Garden Clubs Inc.
