Hammond Garden of July 2023
The Hammond Garden Club’s Garden of the Month for July is Andrea and Cary Turner’s cottage garden on West Michigan Street.
At first glance, it is a beautiful mingling of blue and white plates and blue and white flowers. However, these are not the only visual appeals of the front garden.
Behind and beside the blue plumbago, blue balloon flowers and white New Guinea impatiens, sunflowers line the front walk. Closer to the house appear lily of the Nile, a pink hydrangea and loropetalum.
To the left of the house appear succulents and ferns in pots, a mass of zinnias, and a shady prayer garden.
Following the driveway to the back of the house, which is lined with a hydrangea, azaleas and gardenias, we find a blue bottle tree, azaleas, jasmine, hostas, lily of the Nile and another line of blue and white plates. The back area is so shady and welcoming that one can almost forget the heat.
The Turners’ garden areas were designed and are maintained by Andrea and Cary, and vividly express their personalities.
The Hammond Garden Club is a member of District VI Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Deep South Garden Clubs and National Garden Clubs.
