Club Flower – “Azalea”
The Azalea, a favorite shrub for Louisiana landscapes,
grows in most areas of the state. Because of the shrub’s many
qualities, azaleas are widely used in landscape plantings.
Homeowners like azaleas mainly for their abundant,
dramatic, vivid, colorful flowers, but many are also chosen
for their interesting plant forms and evergreen foliage.
The azalea is not very difficult to grow under favorable
conditions. A general knowledge of the cultural requirements
will be beneficial before attempting to grow the shrub.
Unsightly plants in the landscape give a poor appearance.
Azaleas belong to the genus Rhododendron. These
rhododendrons have non-scaly thinner leaves which range
from deciduous to evergreen types and are known in the trade
as azaleas.
